I know February is all about love, but there’s a different kind of love that people tend to ignore: self-love. I know this is something that has gained a lot of attention lately. Yet, at the same time, no one knows what it means nor how to do it. Well, I’m here to help.
Self-love: regard for one’s own well-being and happiness (chiefly considered as a desirable rather than narcissistic characteristic).
From time to time you should think about doing something for yourself. It could be as simple as buying that dress you’ve wanted for a long time. As long as you’re not over spending on things you don’t need. Don’t be afraid to treat yourself (not spending when your tempted is also a form of self-love).
Other things can be hard like cutting toxic people out of your life or just simply saying “no”, because you know your limites. You don’t have to feel bad about it. Yeah some people will get angry at you and try to guilt ttrip you for it, but that’s something they’re going to have to deal with. In th long run it might be for the better.
Where to start
Last year, when I decided to love myself more, I found it was easier said than done. Mainly, because I wasn’t entirely sure where to start. I did have a small idea of who I wanted to be. So, I made a list of goals I wanted to achieve (short-term, intermediate and long-term). It really helped me have a perspective of where I am and things I should do to achieve my goals.
I think the smallest things can change the way you feel about yourself. A lot of people (including me) would say to start with self-care. You can do a bunch of them on a low-budget. You can also start on a clean slate and clean out certain parts of your life, albeit your closet or you mind.
